G'day all.

Just had a thought ( it happens sometimes)

With melbourne on chloramine now i've been thinking about things.

When we use "tap water conditioner" on grid water with chloramine we break the chlorine-ammona bond (chloramine) and neutralize the chlorine.

BUT we are left with free ammonia in the water...................

So, i get to thinking, can the ammonia be off gassed line straight chlorine used to be?

I don't have time time, but would like someone to test this theory for me.

If you know that you are on chloramine this is what i would like;

get 20lts or so of tap water
use the conditioner at the rec. dosage for chloramine
test the water to veryfy that you have ammonia present
put an air stone in the water for say 12 hours
measure the ammonia again.

Steve

Just remembered this.......

Air pump batteries went flat so haven't had air for all the time, changed and will do another reading in the morning, not much change in reading - might be closer to 0.25

VB... you may want to read Steves post again.... I think we had concluded that the chloramine cannot be easily gassed off.

Your theory needed to be proven (ammonia gas off) - for chrissake don't give vb any more ammunition to rub your nose in it :lol:
