Post subject:  Rainbows AND Redclaws?

Didn't want to hijack Tim B's rainwater thread, but something caught my eye...

Tim said, "i in the mean time have been belting the food into the crays and the rainbows "

I am curious as to the temp you keep your water. Rainbows, as far as i know, need 50 - 60 F temps while redclaw would be considered to be at the lower edge of thier range at 55F and lethal below that according to literature i have seen.

I live in New England USA and have a few Walkamin strain redclaw. I was told 65F is the lowest i should try and they basically stop eating below that. So either you're growing trout outside their preferred range or your growing redclaws outside of their range. I would love to drop the temps of the redclaws (I keep them at 71 - 74F) so i'd like to hear more your success with your animals!

Thanks!

I think Tim may be talking about Rainbow Fish - not Rainbow Trout. See this linkhere - they are a tropical fish.

Thanks. That makes more sense. Don't know how "trout" got in my head.
