perhaps a vertical trellis, say 30cm above the bed, would also work. simple enough to install. you could then train the growing shoots the direction you want so they don't compete with other plants. similar to how grapes are trained.

Good call BF... Use that growbed for creeper vegetables like peas, beans, passionfruit? etc.

i should have said horizontal trellis above. however a vertical trellis would also have its functions. like you say tim creeper type plants for vertical, where as bushier plants for horizontal. i suspect the yield may even increase due to more light getting to the plant.
