Some times Natives used saps of certain trees to knock fish out to capture them. It maybe that that is what you found

Hi all,its good to be back.
First off, I cant take any credit for the marron, ist all thanks to Morya.
If you live in Adelaide and know where Newton is, there is a shopping centre there with a fresh fish shop.
In the shop is a tank and a kind salesman who will even sex the marron for you. Ive never paid more the 10.00 ea, give him a call.
My wife is asian and she is showing me where to get live full grown fish from (Silver eels, ect),

Ill keep you up to date on that, but now I have to get a bigger tank.
Ive found a 500ltr at the B......

As for sap, yes that was my first thought as well. It turned out to be the shock of changing water temp, not any thing in the water. not everything will grow in chips, corn for instance dont like having their feet wet all the time.
Lettice on the other hand think its great.

As a noob I don't know much about AP (yet), but I do know wood.

Some species incl. Mahogany,Walnut and Teak have some toxic characteristics,

While other species of wood have natural anti-bacterial qualities. Most hardwoods have this quality including maple which is one reason why it is used by butchers. Another species that has a very good anti-bacterial trait is pine!

It's possible that the pine chips are killing the bacteria in your growbeds.

Just a thought,

-Steve

this kind of input is needed - the forum is where people add what they DO know and learn from others that which they dont know or are uncertain about, so thanks for the input - it also what made this project interesting as we need to know what to avoid as much as we need to know what works well
