How about PVC Lattice? It's not cheap, it wouldn't float, but it should be stable and not leach. They come in a variety of hole sizes and usually come in 4'X8' sheets (1.2X2.4m).

So should I be worried that I'm using blue board for a tank and sump lid, and the evaporation runs off of it back into the tank?

i was looking for this tread a while now.

IF he wants to phase out the lattice for the nft then maby the nft works better and most likely he just had the lattice around so thats what he used.

I wonder what size his nutrient tanks are and how often he changes the nutes?

On the lattice I have been eyeing off a stack of bread trays at the tip. I've just got to convince the manager that he donsn't need all or even any of them.

On the styrene discussion I'd noticed that a lot of you use it for various purposes. I've been concerned about all the chemicals in our lives these days for a long time mostly due to research done by my Mum. When I began my research to design and build my house one of the materials that is suggested for a variety of applications is poly styrene. I would never use it in a building application because in the closed envirionment of a home the gases that the stuff gives off gradually accumulate (especially in winter and summer when we would have the house shut up tight as a drum). I don't know how those gasses or any other stuff interact with water but there is no way I'd use the stuff in contact with my culture water.

Someone else said in response to a similar question about the poly pipe that some people use that they would worry about it after everyone stopped driving cars, painting there houses, eating food from the supper market, etc, etc, etc. I have a similar attitude and thats why I'll use the fridge insulation to insulate my tanks and grow beds becuase I don't know of an effective alternative. Styrene in the water, however I can think of many other options.

Stuart.

Ps I've stopped painting my house but still need the car.
