On a similar note ...?
We had a patient come in who was getting a few stomach pains. The doctor did his examination and suggested a coarse of suppositries would fix it. He prescribed two supps (to be self administered), the first was a green pickle and the second was a mars bar. He was to have these once a day for 6 days, pickle first, and then return for another checkup.
The man returned after 6 days and complained he was still having the abdo pain. He was re-examined and the doctor said he would require one more dose and then the problem would be fixed. This time however he required a pickle and a baseball bat. Understandably he was more than a little worried! After inserting the pickle he was to wait for ten minutes, leaning over the bed with his pants down, while the doctor held the bat.
Five minutes later a tape-worm stuck his head out:
"Hey, where's my mars bar?"

BANG

I know that urine will produce ammonia.

And I was only trying to cycle the pool, dunno why I'm banned.

I don`t see any great problems with it..
if you are the sole contributor and consumer, you`ll only catch what you`ve already got, hehe.

It seems the bulk ammonia component in human urine is in the form of ammonium bicarbonate (NH4HCO3) which nitrosomas can use to produce nitrite. Alledgedly, 1 litre of urine could contain upto 2200mg.

I`ve no idea how that compares to an equivilent number of fish for daily ammonia output but i guess you`d need a fair amount of gravel

Hi Steve
I`ll have to backtrack to find the references as i tend to copy/paste to txt files rather than bookmark.

Here`s the link to the pdf regarding nitrosomas ability to convert ammonium bicarbonate ((NH4HCO3) to nitrite.

http://rothfus.cheme.cmu.edu/tlab/pbeds ... t6_s03.pdf

Some cut/paste info which i`ll try to relocate the page of:

Stored human urine had pH values of 8.9 and was composed of eight main ionic species, the cations Na, K, NH4, Ca and the anions, Cl, SO4, PO4 and HCO3.
Nitrogen was mainly (> 90%) present as ammoniacal N, with ammonium bicarbonate being the dominant compound.
Urea and urate decomposed during storage.
In a pot experiment with N labelled human urine, higher gaseous losses and lower crop uptake (barley) of urine N than of labelled ammonium nitrate were found.
Phosphorus present in urine was utilized at a higher rate than soluble phosphate, showing that urine P is at least as available to crops as soluble P fertilizers.
