Worms drowning ar a commn misconception. They breathe via gas exchange over their moist skin, much like how fish do with their gills. The misconception has come about when peopple see masses of dead worms in puddles after rain. As other have stated, it is the very low DO that is the death bringer, not the water itself.

Have we found our "canary in the cage" for AP? :)

Is that the case with all worms? that they can live in water with lots of DO?

i'm not a worm-ologist :) LOL

But i've seen about three differnet types survive months in a good aquarium.

I guess one of the long term survival cues will be availability of food. That why i'd tip compost worms as being the best choice (apart from worms you naturally find aquatically)

The worms in my worm farm have dwindled to a really low number (again). This happens when you always forget to keep the scraps for them. I considerred getting some more from Kmart, but see that they are twice the price of the ones I bought last time - so I will just put some time into breeding my numbers up again. Will defintelly look at putting some in the grow-bed when I have enough.

make sure to not choose the ones with a large "ring" around them to feed to fishies, they are the sexually mature ones you want to leave so they have babies :)
