Perhaps I need to bury some Iron in my system.

What do ppl mean about doing 'both PH tests'?

Before adding the shells my PH was 5 - 6, due to using coco husks. I wasn't sure how to change it and was told shells might not work. After adding the shells it changed to 7 - 7.5 within 24 hrs.

So I was wondering if the shells and coco husks would provide for a very balanced media, not just in terms of PH but also for drainage.

The test kits that a lot of folks here use (API Master test kit) have two PH ranges: 6.0-7.6 and 7.4-8.8. At the edges of the range it is kind of inaccurate (in my experience), so one needs to run the other test as well.
