TC,, yep the ponderings of AP,.....,,round and round the merry-go-round,,,but somehow enjoyable.
I agree that the extra plumbing costs andTIME etc for barrel-ponics is not for me,,,don't get me wrong,,,OBO's set-up is fabulous but I just don't have that amount of spare time.
For a system that is growing cooler temp loving fish,,I recon you can't beat the TC latest in ground/linerbed.Bury the tank as much as possible and also the sump( if there is one).

If you are masochistic???(spelling)and want to fight natural temps,to grow warmer climate fish then I believe the scenario changes completely.Tank/sump and beds out of the ground or atleastinsulated away fromthegroundtemp..Be prepared to spend a few dollars on insulation and a water warming system.My idea for grow-beds in this system is stainless steel sheets,,,,easily bent to a half pipes hape or a more traditional 3 sided oblong. AS soon as people hear the word "stainless" they imagine huge money but that is not necessarily true.I see plastic KOI ponds (4' X 5' X30" )selling at $450,,,The staino needed to make the same would cost less than $60,,but the labour costs etc would be high,,,unless done"pre-fab"in India.
