Hey Mike! Yes, I'm still here, but the day job takes up a lot more time than it used to. System's still plugging along, and the third grow-out batch of tilapia has made it to 2" long. 2nd batch are turning out just as delicious as the first.

Glad to see you're still in the game!

Mike, nice to hear from you again....Steve has actually, almost, nearly got around to mowing his lawn and keeps throwing up tantalizing pics of what he interprets as a BYAP system (we just nod and encourage him  ), mine has matured and is going strong...winter here tho, so bit slow on the growth side - keep in touch

nice welcome back mates...thanks. I'm glad to see everyone's still at it!

I stared deep into my pool yesterday and saw a teeny tiny algae bloom at the bottom of the deep end... hmmmm, to let it go, or not let it go...

I am going away for the weekend and I'll have you know that I did NOT dose the pool with chlorine.... I fully expect to see more algae..

:cyclopsani:

The algae is getting thick. The kids are like "what the heck dad?" Need to find large bio filter fast.

Any rocky mountain tilapia around? Janet?

I need some algae eating fish.

:)

Welcome back, Mike!

A pool, eh? And no wife to interfere with turning it green!

Hmmm....a pool in sunshine is really hard to keep clear of algae...I guess you'll have to get some starter fish back from Alaska? Those little fellows sure love algae....I wonder how they would get along with the koi?

So, eat the tilapia and sell the koi when they reach large size?

Seriously, I guess what you will be doing would be somewhere between a natural swimming pond (zero stocking rate) and AP (as high as you can go). So, maybe size the growbeds for weight of fish? Oversize them to minimize water nutrients rather than going for best plant growth? Some predators to keep the tilapia fry under control? This could be really fun for snorkeling! Feeding the fish by hand underwater! (wearing gloves?)

OK, take deep breath, calm down, curb your enthusiasm.

Seriously, Mike, I'd love to see a natural swimming pool/AP system hybrid. Please make it happen. :)

Hey folks. I am still in the thicke of a custody battle over the kids. Unfortunately the ex has been hoodwinked and shanghai'd by her own emotions and a contentious attorney who has her up to $30 thousand in fees, and we haven't even gone to trial yet. I am an honrable father who deserves nothing less than equal custody of the kids. Hopefully by February this will all be settled.

In the meantime, the pool is free of algea bloom and running fairly clear at the moment. No filtration, I only have around 20 fish stocked, one of which is a 12 lb. grass carp who keep the kids entertained.

I had a custody evaluator sniffing around the home this week and she asked about teh pool. I said the pump broke down and had no $$ to fix it so I did the next best thing and threw fish in there :compress: She seemed to buy it.

I wasn't about to go AP on her A@#.....

Sure would be nice if lawyers were out to settle problems rather than rack up the billable hours. Good luck, amigo.
Got any pics of the carp?
