no worries Sleepe, you had a point. I hadn't thought through the reality of contacting a council for information - was just thinking of where the information would be, in theory. I agree with Aussieponic on satisfying yourself that its safe.

Is that for real that there are calls to fence rivers?

I think that would be an expensive proposition...
also would lead to more of a nanny state, and more litigation!
I am with you on this sleepe, teach water safety first as a priority.
Parents have enough trouble telling theirs kids what not to do.

I thought i sent a reply already - seems to have disappeared.

No worries Sleepe, you had a point about contacting councils. I was thinking about where to go for relevant information, in theory. Actually I agree with Aussie about satisfying yourself that a set-up is safe.

The reason I asked to begin with is that with the proliferation of aquaponickers, sooner or later someone might pick it as a safety issue.

Is that for real about wanting to fence rivers?

Dazed CC

Reread story Dec 07  again. it was actually a man made lake (big one). West Australian followed by one of the tv stations were trying to beat it up.
Fortunately it didn't get any momentum.

Dazed I usually go to the Council's site look up building regs. eg Armadale
link only has swimming pools and Spa's.

I suspect AP will only be a problem if someone drowns.

Fence it or put a lid on it. Keep the AP systems safe from kids.

Aussie

Humans are taught to fear the water, wouldn't it be more sensible to put money into making sure all of them can swim?
The latest in Perth was a little boy drowned in the river, result calls to fence rivers.[/quote]

Sleepe I agree teach your children to swim. But this alone is not a sure thing. Just teaching your children to swim is not enough. A child under 5 can be taught to reach this side of the pool, but this just buys you time. If the child is not noticed for some time things can turnout bad. The stats say more children under 5 drown in backyard swimming pools. All I am saying is ,Do what you can to male it safe. Accidents do happen do what you can to minimise the risk.
