Keep it simple. Air will eventually break siphons unless they are designed to use air. I used a version of this with gold fish and a hole in my backyard and ran successfully for 2 years.

2 Huge Pros:
-2 pumps, if one fails or GPH changes... who cares beds will stay wet and fish will have water. No huge risk of over flow or bleed out. (would hate to have a small sump pump burn and siphon all the water in the FT)
-Evaporation/usage on water will happen in FT (which is visible) and easy to add to proper height.
