Check the air lines for the autosiphons (if you're using bell siphon) they sometimes get block by rising solids and hence the siphon doesn't kick in...

yeah i picked them bad boys off this arvo. my goldies don't feed at the surface though for some reason.
they graze the bottom and side but i'm yet to see them snap anything that floats. when i add more fish maybe they will get a bit bolder?

Hey Timmy, make sure your pump is above the bottom of the fish tank so that if all the water drains somewhere else that the fish still have something to swim in.

i think my little pond pump would burn out the second it lost suction, still not a bad idea though.

whats your pump worth verse the pump & fish worth? I would prefer to lose a pump and keep the fish

My pump is mounted on a rock, leaving enough water for the fish if something goes wrong.

I've got all of mine controlled by a float switch, so if all the water starts to get pumped out then in theory.....

....it is better to have 2 levels of security and ensure that, despite the float switch being there, by elevating the pump ot ensure that it cannot leave the fish high & dry.

My dad used to call this "a Belt and Braces" approach, where if one fails, the other keeps you covered.

Hey Timmy, that's from someone who had a pipe fall off and all the water pumped out before he got home from work. I bet there's a few who've had that happen (EB for one, Aeon, others?)

since i work away for 8 days or more at a time, if anything like that happens while i'm away the whole system will be toast most likely anyway.
i'll definately engineer something with my big setup though - i can deal with losing $10 of goldies, but $200+ of perch means a little more planning.
