I hope this is the right place to put this..

This is not aquaponics. Its hydroponics, but it shows some neat ideas for simply built systems and these could just as well be aquaponic systems as hydroponics. I found this while playing with the google search features.

I like the dutch pot setup with the stand built out of pvc which doubles as the drain for the pots....

I haven't started mine yet but i am doing allot of reading and plan to start
in a couple of weeks and will post pics too
I got the first book in the first trend an i must say great techniques
I am not a farmer but love technology and innovation and this is the best i have seen
I want to ultimately go commercial but i have to figure out the system first

Its rare to find quality info so I thought I'd point that one out.

Interesting book so far. I like the nutrient concentration explanations. It seems that the tendency for pH to fall in mature systems is due to an excess of nutrients in the system. Which implies to me that there aren't enough plants in the system.

And I really like the nebulizer system. I used to have one of those in a tabletop gravel & water display piece.

Flood and drain, I think, is the best all around option. Deep water culture out preforms everything, but is limiting in what you can grow and it must all be tied up. I have tried aero/fogger ponics and its to demanding. One power or equipment failure or user error and your entire crop is gone. The aero ponic sprayer he had in the tub is more like a combo aero ponic / water culture. It may preform well.

In hydroponics the nutriens are more like salts and plants do not use every nutrient equally so once it get enough out of balance then one or more nutrients will cause a condition that prevents the plant from being able to draw in the other nutrients. This is not a problem with natural nutrients.

The nitrification process acidifies so will lower ph and reduce alkalinity

I see. Are shells and sodium bicarb the best ways to neutralize this effect?

calciumcarbonate in the form of shells is my preference. Janet uses potassium bicarbonate. sodium bicarb also works well.

with any of the bicarbs do a 1/10 test first so you dont throw the ph sky high
