Hi there,I am new to the forum and to aquaponics.I have purchased the kit from Joel and am waiting for it.I was wondering whether an aboveground pool that has been cut down in height to about 80 cm would be deep enough to grow barra ,it will be 5m x 3.6 m x .80. and will be in a 6m x 8.5m greenhouse / hothouse.

Hi k and welcome - 14,400 litre tank, that's a big tank . My tank is 800mm high (2,000l) and is a good height - 800mm would be the shallowest I would go for any tank over 2,000l.

How many and what size grow beds are you going to have - tank takes up a large area of the green house

What type fish you gonna have

I think you'll find in Newcastle that for most of the year it will be too cold for barra to feed and survive, much less grow. You might be better with silver perch or cod.
How deep is the pool now?

I had a tour through Tailormade Fish Farm at Bobs Farm near Newcastle.Nick ,the owner was incredibly helpful and full of encouragement - so the idea of Barra comes from him.The greenhouse will house the fish, and seedlings whilst a laserlite type awnings around my house will give me grow areas that I can close in -about 100m2 facing North.I have also allocated 150m2 for ground planted crops that can also be irrigated .I am dedicating myself to it full time .I am going to be asking a lot of questions -thanks all in advance

No stopping you then. Time has always been my shortfall (and money ).

silver perch would probably be a simpler option but watching Barra feed in a tank was so cool.It was like firecrackers going off.I will have too really contain heat in the hothouse -thermal skinned ,plus a heating system for the water with a backup generator.With Tailormade so close I have a ready source of info about Barra as well.I am deciding at the moment how sophisticated to get with filters.My next door neighbour has a 20000 l pool with Koi Carp -really big suckers .He spoke to me about fluidized bed filters with coral sand -we are still investigating.
