Hi All, every few years i get the itch to start something new.... this time it's for real!

My current plan is to tear the roof off a barn, 36 feet square and build a greenhouse 26 x 36 on top. down below will be a fish tank made from on old above-ground swimming pool (~3900 US gallons). I am still planning to raise Redclaws as the main species, and probably some additional fish species.

It's been a number of years since i spent any real time here, but i would really love to hear from people who have gotten the systems up and running with produce that rivals (or surpasses) earth grown crops. I am just in the planning stage and it will take me a while to get past the GH stage.

My questions that i am researching are :
How has aquaponics and aquaculture changed in the past decade.
What is new that i should be aware of?
What advances have been made with farming redclaws? (I am probably just as interested in Marron, though in the past they were) - am aware of the S3J breeding methodology which i may try to duplicate on my own...

I would also love to hear from anyone who has been successful with farming redclaws and who is still doing it.

Ok for now... Nice to be back and hope there is new value here!

Rob (Poppa) Lak...

On the home level scale of aquaponics I think the only bigger thing that's changed in the last 10 years is additional filtration like swirl or radial flow filters are much more accepted/expected versus just relying on the media beds to handle it. (I'm sure some would disagree though.)

You might consider sand as media; sand gardening or iavs. So far this has eliminated the need for additional filtration in my systems, and is working well.
