Hi all,
I have some liquid iron that is chelated with sodium glucoheptonate, or glucoheptonic acid and monosodium salt. I can't find any info on whether it is fish safe or not. Now, I know it might add a delicious umami flavor to the fish, if it's like monosodium glutamate....I found a few safety data sheets, and they mention fish being used in the study, but i cannot make sense of whether it affected them or not.

Heres what one says: Fish LC50 Rainbow Trout >1000 MG/ L, 96 hours
and, Fish LC50 2000 MG/L, 96 hours estimated
I am trying, but cannot make sense of this. Is that the concentration that caused fatality?

It also says that it irritates the eyes of rabbits, rats, and thus humans.
I ended up picking it up because it claims that the chelator is derived from sugar.
I thought it might be a good alternative to other chelators, now I'm not so sure.... :dontknow:

My system is already salted to about 3ppt due to an ich outbreak. Would this salt push the salt levels too high?

Should I try a foliar spray?

The system is showing symptoms of chlorosis, the ph is a bit high right now, between 7.5 and 8. I've added the iron that is good up to 7.5, and many plants are responding after a few weeks. Maybe I should try to get the ph down? It went up since I started adding water from the tap. I usually use rain water, and adjust with calcium, keeping it between 6.5 and 7ish, but the good ol rain tanks finally ran dry.

Any input on the chelator would be greatly appreciated!
