Oh and Rup, my changeover in the yabbies is pretty slow.... Don't know that I could actually give you a volume ATM... I'm fairly sure I read somewhere that yabbies don't like much flow in the water... I think..:?

i had a look thru the forum looking for systems with a way of catching the evaporation and never came across anything..
has anyone tried some sort of clear plastic sheeting or even hard plastic moulded roof so the sun can get thru but will catch at least some of the evaporating water?

I have plastic over the top of my fish tank to keep the heat in and to catch the evaporation. One thing I found was that as the water condensed on the underside of the plastic - it was running down the plastic, over the lip of my tank and away. Have fixed this now and am loosing lots less water (I think).

Here in the US we can obtain crayfish from hatcheries as they are used both as bait and for food. I don't know if there are hatcheries down under or not.

Our crayfish, or as we refer to them crawdads, live in a wide variety of riverine and impounded areas. We even have some that are somewhat terrestrial! They live in holes in the soil of swampy areas, which has seasonal periods of drieness. They seem to eat just about anything that they can put into thier mouths, but seem to prefer a protien based diet, albeit putrifying.
