Thats a pretty big project Kirsty....

I'd be getting a price for a liner, and while doing that, start playing around with a small system to get the hang of aquaponics... Have you got any old drums, or tubs laying around that you could make a small system from?

As I mentioned I have a fairly big fish pond in the front garden and it has 28 gold fish living happily with one large water lily and several pots of a grass like aquatic plant. I was thinking if I placed a couple of boards over the middle and put two or three tubs on top and used a small pump to run the water up and through the tubs that might work????? Yes, just priced liners!!! best to start small lol

Kirsty the pond plan sounds like it would work. You would have the advantage of gravity to get the water back from the grow beds.

Yep, that'll work...

This was my first ever system and it worked ok for a while.. Simple pond pump, pumping into black tubs with holes drilled in the bottom..

Gee my pond isnt as big as that so maybe I will have to rethink the amount of growbeds? One? Its a weird shape with two ponds sort of linked in the middle (am I making sense?) so its hard to work out how many litres,
Heres a pic, what do we think? big enough? :?

It's a lovely pond Kirsty. A few grow beds will be fine. By the looks of things you don't have hundreds of large fish in your pond and there are already lots of plants there, so a few tubs should be a good start.

We will all be here to support you when this obsession starts taking up the majority of your life and things like cleaning the house or doing laundry become non-essential components of Aquaponics;)

hehehe.....fixed

rofl... love it mf

....think of the aeration from that pump, we should be able to rig up a few door actuators to get the handle moving... save on 24/7 manual labour

(if you're not sure what I am referring in too, it is the hand pump bottom right hand corner of the fish pond)

Sorry Kirsty...got carried away a bit there, love the pond

 now that is classic...... a real pump for a change! I'd set everyone in the family to a schedule....ten minutes pumping every hour.
