Played around for half the day trying to get the zelvalve working. Alas to no avail. It did not leak any water but would not seal enough to set the syphon in motion. If I held my hand over it, syphoning started and it would cease flowing when the growbed emptied.

It would then fill and go into aquaponic incontinence. Put it back the way I had it.

Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Very addictive - ain't it

:) having fun yet Jonty...?

I'm on the lookout for some larger diameter flexible tubing to trial in the same way as my 13mm siphons are configured. Using pvc is good, but flexible tubing is somewhat more, well, flexible ;).

When you are getting your siphon setup and fine tuning the height of the flood etc it is really easy to do with flexy tube (you just make the loop higher/bigger), whereas you need to make cuts, or substitute longer tubes with pvc piping. Plus the smooth loops seem to make for the best flow - hence faster flood rate - hence more oxygenation into the pond.

Ell, are you just going to sit there and let Simmo diss your siphon design like that (PVC sucks, doesn't flow as well, etc)?
:-)

hehehe - trying to start a fight dave

the fun begins when they increase the pipe size and the flow rate is inadequate or needs air tubes to break siphon seal - Steve knows all about that :laughing8:

Ell,
You're right about the air tube. My system worked flawlessly until the pond filled up with water. In hindsight, all I needed to do was syphon some water out of the pond and it would have returned to normal.

But NO, I had to play around. In the end I needed the air tube to get it to work. But it's now up and running and working like a dream. (Hoping the dream doesn't turn to a nightmare).

Where in life can I stuff things up so badly and not get in the s#*t.

Life at times is like having an orgasm in a wetsuit. It gives a warm feeling but goes unnoticed.

Yep - tried all ways to get 'em to work without an air release mechanism, makes you appreciate how simple things can be the difference twixt success and failure :fart:
