Could grow some duckweed on top of the water Fraggle... soaks up ammonia... and I'm sure the goldies would enjoy it... probably wouldn't have to feed them, especially if you're away for a few days...

LOL, my silver dollars would have any sort of plant that is in/on the water eaten over night! LOL. I've had an amazon sword in the tank, planted it in the afternoon and the next morning there was nothing left!! Even stuff they are not meant to eat, like java moss etc they eat like.
I put in, over the course of a week, an entire cos lettuce. They go nuts over anything green. Little pigs they are.
I've tried every plant I can get hold of to grow, but the dollars keep eating them. (I'd actually hate to think how much it's cost me!!! You don't really notice $2-3 a week, but over nearly 2 years! )

Umm do herbs fit into the "compact leafy vegetable" category? :) Not sure if that's what you class them as or if they fit into another category, I'm pretty plant/veggie illiterate, only know what they are to look at not grow! LOL, lots to learn!

Thanks guys.

I plan on picking the leaves very often! LOL, I use so many herbs in my cooking. And I love bruchetta for lunch. So that won't be a problem.

Didn't get a chance to do anything this weekend, (a bit short on the moolah side of things too, :D) so will wait til I have a weekend with hubby home so he can help (at least watch the kids so I'm not tripping over them of fishing them out of the tanks, LOL)

I think I'll start a thread in the section on systems and post lots of pics along the way.

Thanks again guys
