Ok This time I got pictures.
We went out to jazzplayermark's place for Christmas dinner. Mark's wonderful wife and family prepared a fabulous meal and we got to see his awesome house. I got pictures of his AP system. The tomatoes have take off.

I'm definitely a supporter of pond liner! Lumber and liner, grow beds all the way. And for fish tanks, liner and the ground is a good deal cheaper than plastic tanks. Just make sure to keep the top lip of the lined tank up above ground level a good bit to keep runoff and dirt from washing into your tank during a heavy rain event.

Liner is good when you can get it. I for one have used heavy construction grade plastic in a some growbeds and a fish tank for 2 years and it has held up fine. Kind of a poor mans pond liner. Go with liner if you can afford it though.

You can get pond liner from Home Depot or sometimes Lowes. It usually costs quite a lot but you arn't paying shipping. However, the sizes they have available are very limited. Water garden or nursery places might also be able to get it though I don't expect you would get a deal there either.

I like ordering the pond liner since I can order the appropriate size for my situation providing the size works out to one of the widths they sell. (Usually multiples of 5 or 6 depending on the type of liner.)

I'm partial to the EPDM stuff since it is really tough and relatively easy to work with but it does cost quite a bit.

If you go with lighter weight liner or with heavy builders plastic (make sure to use black as the clear stuff will get brittle in the sun real quick) be prepared to replace it at some point in time though it may work ok but it is hard to tell for how long. I've had a lettuce root manage to work its way through lighter weight plastic when I was doing hydroponics and had lined a styrofoam box with plastic for use as a DWC hydroponic system. It took me a while to figure out that there was a hole since styrofoam leaks slowly but when I pulled the system apart, sure enough there was a root growing right through the plastic. Anything that gets gravel in it has to be durable enough to take the gravel being dumped into it and then the digging around when planting things or harvesting things.
