Is anybody familiar with Chitosan/Chitlin and it's use in liquid fertilizers? I'm living in Thailand and can't get Maxicrop or Seasol, so I bought some organic liquid fertilizer which is made from freshwater crab shells.

Apparently it's high in Chitosan and I'm trying to work out if this is good? A link to a similar product states it 'promotes the growth of chitin-eating bacteria in the soil'

Here's a link to a similar product also made in Thailand http://www.ptsinternational.com/pts-new/fertilizers.php

Humm... "wiki" article suggests that it might in fact extract phosphorus from the water...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chitosan

The rest of the google hits were all about it's "suggested" weight loss benefits as a "fat attractor"....

Are you suggesting it will decrease nutrient levels and help my fish lose weight? I read that in the wiki article also, although I didn't see it anywhere else. I may have to look for an alternative, the problem is they organic stuff over here is a little short on details, the labels just say a product is 'good' or 'very good'.
