The marigolds root systems actually grasp the nematodes mechanically and then they produce a digestive chemical which allows them to make a meal of the netmatodes - they are carnivorous plants! - pretty cool. BUT this only occurs when they are growing in the soil.
As far as eating them who knows what goodies they would retain re vitamins and minerals but alas they will not be able to clear out any bugs in your system the way they do in the soil.
Dont eat 'em - plant 'em!

Re signature:

Isnt it a cheerful thought? I must admit its not mine - but i cant remember where i first read it - i think it was in someone's autobiography.
The other one i love is; " if there's no light at the end of the tunnel, then bloody well run down there and light it yourself".

I think its a wonderful thing to discover that being an adult can be just as much fun as being a kid - my husband and I act like total idiots together and with our close friends - we sing stupid songs ( mostly to our cats), make up silly voices, have silly walks and chase each other around the house. It helps to have lots of pets - they see right through any pretense of maturity on our part, and couldnt care less how clever we might think we are. All they want to do is PLAY!

Cheers

I am new to the site and AP but have spent alot of time reading the posts. I also like cooking and I grow Marigolds as companion for tomatoes. I use marigold flowers in summer salads. Flowers are edible and add colour to salads.

Hi hw, welcome to the site - be warned if you keep reading the posts you wont be new to AP for long, it is very addictive as well as making a lot of sense. Marigolds in the salad I would be up for that but I may have to tell the rest of the clan that they are something else though :flower:

Glad to know that Marigolds are ok to eat. I used to cook up dandelions, they have a very nutty taste. Ok, so way off topic, what were we talking about? Worms?

Soz on the following OT!!! I have something to ad about the doggie poopies & compost... :)

It is possible to compost dog poopies, but it's imperative to use separate tools, bins & gloves for this. Totally separate. The compost from it must only be used for non-edible plantings.. & also not in areas where children play regularly (although you can worm children too   ). Putting poo-compost under the mulch of non-fruiting trees or shrubs is a good way to get rid of that kind of compost & feed up some plants too! :D

The poo worms have to be gradually accustomed to poos only & not eat anything else (so nothing else should be added to the mix, unless it's a little bit of shredded newspaper once in a while, for 'fibre' ). When dosing your dog with heartworm etc etc, don't put those poops in the compost for 2 weeks; either flush them, or chuck them in the bin. 2 weeks of poops in the bin is much better than 356 days of it, IMO. :)

I'm not totally against poo composts, as I'm keen to use human composting toilets eventually, in my dream house.. But when it comes to pet poopies, it requires a very separate & clean method! :D
