Another way to figure the ramp would be 1:3 or for every 1 unit vertical you go 3 units horizontal.
Gives you a 33 percent slope basically.
1 meter vertical rise to 3 meters horizontal run = 33.3 percent slope which is a little steeper than 30 degrees

Think the maths is not quite right there badfish:
1 metre vertical to 3 metres horizontal = 1/3 of 45 degrees = 15 degrees

3m to 3m is 45 degrees...you would need to rise 2 metres to 3 metres to get 2/3 of 45 degrees or 30 degree ramp

It would probably be well insulated also. Would you sink it into the ground part way or all above ground?

Dunno, does it need to be sealed at the bottom or open to the earth?

It depends on if you need a drain tap to draw off any liquid, similar to a worm farm. If it did not need a drain tap i would sink it.

I have a space and will build one when my new AP is done

I think you really need a place for liquids to drain out.

No Bottom
Note that the unit has no bottom. The unit can
be situated above a bed of sand that would serve
as a partial filter, and any nutrients that escape this
filter could be absorbed by the roots of plants
situated around the perimeter of the unit. In this
way any free liquids liberated by the larvae in
the digestion of the waste do not necessitate
the introduction of bulking materials. This greatly
simplifies the operation of the unit.

this is wierd, the large unit has no bottom to allow drainage, but the smal one has a sealed bottom???

I think i will concrete the bottom of mine, but leave a few drainage holes into the sand below. Ideas?

some drainage would be good to keep it from going anaerobic in the bottom. Don't know how much. It would also depend on how you're feeding them. If you have a semi constant supply of water you would have to have a seepage sump. On the flip side, if you have too much drainage, the BSF would dry out. maybe a periodic watering of them, and then a sump with dowing back to the grow beds....

On the website the commercial model has a bottom with three drain bottle collectors.
Link for your info on performance v earthworms (pdf doc) Note this was on sewage sludge however it has some useful comments.
